Accrington Stanley assistant manager Jimmy Bell is pleased to see Joey Barton succeeding with Newcastle United.
Bell played alongside his dad Joseph Barton for now-defunct Knowsley United in the suburbs of Liverpool.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "I haven't spoken to him for a number of years, but I remember him being a little bit of a tearaway and a character.
"He was a smashing kid, though.
"He was there at every game. Sean McConville who plays for us now was there too and his dad Peter played as well.
"You could see then that Joey was going to be a good footballer and I'm made up with how he progressed.
"I'd sooner have him than some unknown foreigner."
