AC Milan veteran Massimo Oddo has announced his retirement.

The right-back turns 36 on June 14 and had a varied career at the likes of Milan, Napoli, Verona, Lazio, Bayern Munich and Lecce.

"I am leaving football," he told Radio Manà Manà. "At a certain age you find yourself at a crossroads. I didn't say it with certainty before because if a proposal I couldn't resist arrived, then I would accept, but it's not going to happen."

Oddo also won the 2006 World Cup with Italy.

"I've always had other interests in my life apart from football, so it won't be a problem for me to retire.

"I am studying at the FIGC course to get a coaching certificate, but I am more inclined towards work behind a desk, like director of sport. That is my dream.

"Usually players who go abroad say they do it to learn English or think they can still give a great deal to overseas clubs at the end of their careers, but that's not the case for me. Italian football should always invest in youth."
