AC Milan president Scaroni: Paqueta deal proof of Elliott commitment

AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni says their deal for Lucas Paqueta is proof of owner Elliott Management's commitment.

The Rossoneri paid €35m plus up to €10m in bonuses to Flamengo for the attacker.

“This signing confirms the intentions of Elliott to bring Milan back to the top," said Scaroni in the presentation Press conference.

“This move does not mean Milan don't have a clear strategy of following Financial Fair Play rules, as it fits well within it and we consider it a transfer that takes us towards where we want to go."

Director Leonardo was trusted with identifying the talent from Brazil and bringing him to San Siro.

“Although these are early days, he played a very important part in the Flamengo side that finished second in their division. We have a project that we want to put in place and he has everything required, both as a player and a man, to help us achieve this. He can above all really improve a great deal.

“I think he can bring more joy, creativity and a Brazilian approach to Milan. We're not comparing him to Kaka, but clearly in the past Milan were in a different situation and had been winning for some years. We've just had a change of ownership, are a team under construction and Paquetá is part of a project going forward that must be given time to grow.

“Above all, his arrival proves we want an attack-minded and creative Milan side that is truly positive when on the ball. He has the characteristics we want to see in this Milan team."
