AC Milan midfielder Tonali tells Empoli after 'sneaky' throw-in: Up to ref to stop play

AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali shrugged off Empoli complaints after his throw-in opened the scoring for yesterday's win.

Tonali's throw-in was taken over 10m from where the ball went out, which saw Rafael Leao score.

“I was there and the coach gave me the ball. It's one of those things you have to try in the moment and hope it goes well," Tonali told Sky Italia.

Empoli coach Paolo Zanetti was furious, but Tonali added, “I didn't really look at the position, usually it's the referee who stops play if you've got it really wrong. The goal came from this… sneaky throw-in.

"It was the right thing to do at the time."
