AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli was delighted to sign off for the season with victory over Hellas Verona.
The win marked the last of Zlatan Ibrahimovic's playing career.
Pioli said: "We close the season with the pride of coaching a strong group and we have shown it above all by knowing how to react after the January-February period. And with the sadness of not being able train more a champion like Zlatan.
"We had talked to each other during the week, but he hadn't decided until the last minute. I saw a conflicted person, even a worried one. Zlatan is a winner, a fighter and it's not easy for him. But he's so intelligent that he will get satisfactions in life , even in other situations."
Asked about summer market plans, Pioli continued: "We'll talk, we'll see each other. But now their (directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara) work begins.
"We have a very solid base where the board, the club and the managers have been good at making it so. Of course if there is the possibility, if we want to be competitive in the two competitions we will also improve the squad a little."
