AC Milan football chief Paolo Maldini has explained bringing in free agent Mario Mandzukic.

The former Juventus striker is set to sign terms on Tuesday.

“We know Mandzukic's character well, we talked to him," Maldini told Sky Italia. “We don't consult with our players, it's the club that decides.

“We have direct contact with the coach. In football, good guys aren't enough, not that Mario isn't.

“The group also draws on those who are slightly different, I'm not talking about Mario but in general."
