AC Milan captain Leonardo Bonucci has likened coach Rino Gattuso to Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.
Bonucci played for Conte at Juventus.
“To be honest, at the start I did wonder why I had done this and if it was worth it," he told Sky Sport Italia.
“My performances on the field were not those of the real Bonucci, because mentality can change everything. Then I managed to get concentrated again to work hard, think more about myself than everything going around us and tried to build up my self-belief.
“I used interior strength to believe in the choice I had made and now I am super-motivated."
His situation was undoubtedly helped by the arrival of Coach Gattuso in place of Vincenzo Montella, as the Rossoneri are now on a 13-match unbeaten run and reached the Coppa Italia Final.
“Winning helps you to keep on winning, but the Coach was right to say we should keep our feet on the ground. We look forward, aware we can have our say against anyone.
“Obviously, in terms of charisma, determination and the ferocity he transmits to the team, Gattuso does remind me of Conte.
“I have always had faith in this squad, this project and Coach Gattuso. He showed despite being quite young and relatively inexperienced that he knows how to make the team play.
“I was most of all amazed at his ability to transmit that same hunger he had as a player."
