Aberdeen's Vernon reveals England interest prior to signing new deal

Aberdeen striker Scott Vernon yesterday signed a contract extension keeping him at the club until summer 2014.

The 28-year old, who joined the Dons from Colchester United in 2010, was thrilled to have signed a new deal with the struggling club despite plenty of interest from England.

"I am delighted with what has happened. I have said all along I wanted to stay," he told the Daily Record.

"I had a couple of options but nothing I regarded that was as good as Aberdeen. I wasn't aware of any other interest from clubs in Scotland.

"I am happy with how I am playing and want to do well for the team because it needs all the help it can get."
