AA Gent chairman Ivan De Witte has revealed Leeds United have made an offer for Jonathan David.

The Canada international was a revelation for Gent last season, sparking interest from across Europe.

Lille see David as a replacement for Napoli-bound Victor Osimhen, though De Witte says Leeds are now in contact.

“I explained to Jonathan that we want him to play for us this season. And also explained to him that this is also better for him in terms of sports," said De Witte.

“A few weeks ago it still sounded loud that he only wants to go to the Bundesliga and now he necessarily wants to go to France… isn't that really bizarre? As if Lille would be such a great step forward for Jonathan? Is one then thinking of the player's career?

"The contacts came to a halt this week, but other clubs are still interested. With much better proposals even. Including Leeds. But again, I will do everything I can to keep him."
