A-LEAGUE CHAMPIONS: Melbourne Victory thump Sydney FC 3-0

Melbourne Victory are A-League champions after a thumping grand final triumph over Sydney FC.

Played in front of a pulsating home crowd at AAMI Park, the Victory never were tested by Sydney as they ranout comfortable 3-0 winners.

Roared on by almost 30,000 fans, Victory hit the lead early in the first-half through Besart Berisha.

The superb Kostas Barbarouses created the opener, crossing for Fahid Ben Khalfallah to take possession and interchange passes with Berisha before the striker thumped home a screamer with his left-foot.

Blood was spilled on both sides, with Sydney defender Matthew Jurman wearing an early elbow from Berisha and Melbourne defender Nicholas Ansell collecting a heavy knock to his nose.

Victory went into halftime with a 1-0 lead and kicked off the second period in similar fashion.

Victory coach Kevin Muscat refused to allow his team to go into their shell and eventually the pressure broke Sydney with two goals in the final ten minutes.

The outstanding Barbarouses settled the issue on 83 minutes, collecting Ben Khalfallah's square ball before firing past Sydney keeper Vedran Janjetovic at the second attempt.

Leigh Broxham capped off a superb afternoon for the hosts, hitting a wonderful near post effort past Janjetovic to complete the scoring.
