West Brom midfielder Mulumbu reveals massive Chelsea influence on career

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu admits Chelsea have had a huge influence on his career.

Not only is he working with West Brom's management duo of Roberto di Matteo and Eddie Newton, both ex-Chelsea stars, but he also played with Claude Makelele at PSG.

"Makelele was a big influence for me," Mulumbu told the WBA website.

"I started to watch his game when he was at Real Madrid and Chelsea, then when he came to Paris he was great for me.

"I could speak to him and ask him questions and I have a little bit of regret that I couldn't play with him.

"But he was a very good influence on me because he came from the same country and he played in the same position.

"He was the best player who could possibly have helped me. I was only 21 when he came in. But I am still learning now and the gaffer and I have chats because he played in the same position.

"Eddie also played in that position so we speak a lot - all the time.

"Even in the games we speak about my position, what I have to do and where I have to play the ball."
