West Brom boss Di Matteo: Scharner personality good for us
West Bromwich Albion boss Roberto di Matteo believes Paul Scharner's personality will make a big impact at the Hawthorns.
Di Matteo has tipped the 30-year-old to brighten up The Hawthorns - both on and off the pitch.
"I've heard it suggested Paul is a livewire and sometimes people take that in a negative way," the Italian told the WBA website.
"I wouldn't say Paul is your typical football player. He's got a little bit more about him. But I wouldn't see that as a negative - I would see that as a positive."
At 6ft 3in, Scharner certainly beefed up Albion's midfield on Saturday - but Di Matteo claims it is too early to predict just how big an impact the former Wigan ace can make on his new team.
"I've only been working with Paul for 12 days and he's only been in the camp that long," he added. "Only time will tell how he's going to develop within the squad.
"But he certainly looks a good player for us.
"I've seen Paul play many times before and I obviously spoke to him during the summer.
"He's very professional, very ambitious and he's the kind of character I like in my team."
