West Brom goalkeeper Scott Carson is determined to win a spot in England’s 2010 World Cup squad.

The Baggies shot-stopper was unavailable for a call-up for England’s final World Cup qualifier against Belarus a week-and-a-half ago due to an ankle injury but despite the minor setback, is keen to impress national team boss Fabio Capello and win a place in his 23-man squad.

“It was nice to still be in the mix," said Carson.

"I was disappointed I couldn’t go because of my ankle. There is no point in going when you’re only 50 per cent fit.

"You have to go when you’re 100 per cent or not at all.

"When I saw Ben Foster was playing I thought in the back of my mind that it could have been me.

"I was surprised Ben played, not because of his ability as he is a great keeper, but because Joe Hart was in the squad for a time and he never played.

"If I’d have gone you never know but my ankle ruled that out straight away.

"I still think I’ve got a chance of getting on that plane.

"I’m just going to try and have a good season for the Baggies and you never know what’s going to happen.

"Hopefully I can stay fit and well and keep my hopes up."
