We will go into every game thinking we can win – Melbourne’s Muscat

Melbourne Victory captain Kevin Muscat says the team will go into every match this season thinking they can win despite increased pressure from opposition.

The reigning A-League champions have gotten off lightly this pre-season, with most of the focus being directed at the two incoming clubs (North Queensland Fury and Gold Coast United), and Muscat is aware that the Victory have managed to sneak into the 2009/10 season somewhat undetected.

"Without confusing confidence with arrogance we'll go into every game thinking we can win it," Muscat said yesterday.

"We're very happy we've flown under the radar. Not too much has really been said about us and that's great. We've gone about our business nice and quiet here.”

Muscat added that the club will now just focus on the season game by game in a bid to achieve their goals.

"At this stage of the season we're just focused on getting three points tomorrow night,” he said of tonight’s season opener against Central Coast Mariners.

“It's a motivation to retain the trophies we won last season, but you won't win those trophies tomorrow night or next week. It's important to focus on the job at hand."
