Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has explained his goal celebration at Wolves on Saturday.

The Villa forward gave Martin O'Neill's side a 79th minute lead in their 1-1 draw, taking revenge after home supporters had wound him up with songs regarding his estranged mother.

Agbonlahor has had a 20-year split from his mum Tina - an Aston Villa supporter, who still lives in Birmingham - which Wolves' fans took delight in mocking him about. He did not speak to his mother after his father gained custody of their children.

The 23-year-old held his fingers to his lips after silencing the locals at Molineux by finishing well from 10-yards after a cross by fellow Three Lions contender Emile Heskey.

"I had to show them what I thought of them when I scored the goal," said the former England Under 21 striker, who has won three caps for the senior side.

"The stick doesn’t really bother me. The more they keep singing, the more I keep scoring. Let’s wait for the next derby."
