Vegar Eggen Hedenstad in sights of Man Utd, Newcastle

Norwegian defender Vegar Eggen Hedenstad is being tracked by Manchester United and Newcastle United.

The Sunday Sun says the Stabæk youngster has caught the eye of scouts working for United in Scandinavia since becoming a first-team regular last season.

And Hedenstad has further impressed in friendly matches ahead of the start of the new Norwegian campaign next month.

Comfortable at either left-back or right-back, 18-year-old Hedenstad is fast emerging as one of his country’s top talents.

But that means the Magpies may face serious competition if they look to bring him to England, with Manchester United having just gained first-hand knowledge of the Norway Under-19 international.

The Red Devils’ second string beat Stabæk in a friendly last Saturday, but Hedenstad’s performance at right-back won over Old Trafford reserve-team coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
