Vanstrattan departs Gold Coast United to sign with Central Coast Mariners

Gold Coast United and goalkeeper Jess Vanstrattan have parted ways as the player is set to join Central Coast Mariners.

Gold Coast United and goalkeeper Jess Vanstrattan have parted ways as the player is set to join Central Coast Mariners.

The 27-year old former Juventus stopper joined Gold Coast in late 2008 prior to their debut A-League season but has decided to return home to Gosford where he will sign with the Mariners later this week.

United chief Clive Mensink confirmed that Vanstrattan would be leaving Skilled Park and wished him well for the future.

“There was interest in Jess from the Central Coast Mariners and Jess himself indicated that he would like to make the move which will take him closer to his family roots,” Mensink said.

“On this occasion we did not want to stand in Jess’s way and we wish him all the very best for the future. He is an excellent goalkeeper and I’m sure he will do very well for the Mariners.”

The departure leaves Gold Coast with a keeper shortage that head coach Miron Bleiberg plans to rectify very soon.

“Obviously securing a new goalkeeper is paramount and we will be looking to make signing as soon as possible, as long as the player is right for us,” he said.
