Van der Sar to pen improved £90,000-a-week Man Utd contract
Edwin van der Sar is on the brink of signing a new deal with Manchester United.
The Sunday Express says Van der Sar is close to committing himself to Manchester United for another 12 months by signing a new £4.7million contract.
The Dutch keeper had delayed agreeing to the fresh deal while he monitored the health of his wife Annemarie, who suffered a brain haemorrhage two days before Christmas.
But Annemarie is well on the way to a full recovery back in Holland and Van der Sar can now turn to his own future at Old Trafford.
Van der Sar, signed in 2005 for £2million, has only five months left on his current contract.
Boss Sir Alex Ferguson has always insisted that there will be a deal on the table for his No1 keeper but it was up to Van der Sar when he wanted to sign it.
Now, it looks like the Dutchman is ready to agree new terms which will see his weekly wage rise to around £90,000.
