Tranmere Rovers are making a sensational new move for North Queensland Fury star Robbie Fowler.

The People says Tranmere want to tempt Fowler to make a sensational comeback ... as their player-manager.

Rovers chairman Peter Johnson is keen to speak to the former Liverpool idol - referred to as God by Kop fans - to ask him to quit Australia where he has been playing for North Queensland Fury.

Fowler would be able to play at League One level without much trouble, so he is doubly appealing as Johnson looks for a successor to John Barnes.

Johnson's been told there is a chance Fowler could be tempted home despite uprooting his family just a few months ago.

Fowler would also pull the crowds on Merseyside, where he is still a major figure after two spells with Liverpool.

The move was represent a major gamble for Johnson, but he has been prepared to take them in the past.
