Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe is ahead of schedule after undergoing ankle surgery recently.

The 28-year old sustained the injury whilst playing for England against Switzerland on September 7 but could be back by the end of November for key Spurs clashes.

Initially it was feared that Defoe would be out until Christmas but first team coach Les Ferdinand has confirmed he is back on the training track and may be available for Spurs’ last two Champions League group stage matches.

“Jermain is progressing very well in the gym at the moment working on building up his muscles in and around the calf,” he said.

“He is due to start running soon and could return for us next month.

“Jermain’s return will be a major boost for us. It will put more pressure on our strikers, which will be great for us.”
