Tottenham midfielder Huddlestone: England recall impossible

Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone says it's impossible for him to break back into the England squad.

Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone says it's impossible for him to break back into the England squad.

He rates his performance in the 4-1 Champions League defeat of FC Twente in midweek as his best of the season so far, but is not holding his breath for a call up.

He said: “It’s virtually impossible to get into the midfield. Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrad have been there for a number of years.

‘‘Gareth Barry has done very well and Michael Carrick has been in and out of the squad. Then James Milner played quite a lot of last season in central midfield and did excellent for Villa and now Man City.

‘‘I have to knuckle down and do well for Spurs to give myself the best chance possible of a call-up.

“I was in the 30-man squad for the World Cup, and then there were three of us out of the seven that missed out in the friendly after the World Cup.

“But if I’m playing week in week out for a good team in the Premier League and the Champions League that will hopefully get me a call. I’ll just have to wait and see.’’
