Tottenham legend Villa urges Lennon to follow Bale example

Tottenham legend Ricky Villa believes winger Aaron Lennon can match the success of teammate Gareth Bale.

Bale admits his good form this season is largely due to the fact he is playing with a smile on his face.

And Spurs legend Villa has told Lennon to do the same thing if he wants to go down in history as one of the club's great entertainers.

The World Cup winner told The Sun: "I like Lennon because he attacks people. He is quick and when I watch him I expect him to beat people.

"He has lost a little bit of confidence but nobody can stop him when he is confident. For me, he is a very exciting player.

"It is very difficult to explain why players lose confidence, but I believe it only takes one good game to get it back.

"The thing is just to play and forget about what everyone else says. He has to prove something to himself to get the confidence back — only he can do it.

"He needs to prove to himself that he is a top player, but he can be one of the best. He is a different type of player, not many are like him.

"He can pass people and attack, that is what makes him special."
