Toronto FC sign Henry as homegrown player
Toronto FC have added young defender Doneil Henry as the first player from their youth academy to join the senior ranks.
17-year old Henry is the first player Toronto have signed with homegrown status since the Major League Soccer announced the initiative in 2007.
Toronto director of soccer Mo Johnston said it was a great signing for the club.
“This is very big day for Toronto FC,” said Johnston. “When we started the Academy – this is what we ultimately wanted to accomplish, bring a young player on board and into the first team. Obviously Doneil has worked very hard under both Stuart and Jason in the Academy, and he deserves this opportunity.
“We are excited to welcome him into the team.”
