Toronto FC chief Anselmi furious at De Rosario comments
Toronto FC vice-president and chief of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, Tom Anselmi, was extremely unhappy with recent comments made by club captain Dwayne De Rosario.
After he scored in the 3-2 loss to San Jose Earthquakes, De Rosario said: “Definitely (my salary should be) up there. It’s too long now. Every year I’ve been showing my worth and it’s about time they come to me with something. I know of other clubs who have gone to their star players and ripped up their contracts and I think it’s only fair.”
Obviously De Rosario thinks he is worth more than the $440,000 he earns per year but Anselmi says he shouldn’t be worrying about these things, especially in a team environment.
“I think the message sucked because that is putting personal interest above team and that’s not what good teams do,” he said on FAN 590.
“That’s just not team behaviour and just unacceptable.
“We all do stupid things once in a while and hopefully that’s what it’s about. And Dwayne’s happy to be part of this team and we’re going to move on. That’s what I’m assuming the situation is.”
