Toronto’s De Rosario goal celebration sparks controversy

Dwayne De Rosario’s goal celebration for Toronto FC on the weekend has sparked some controversy.
The star midfielder and captain netted his 12th goal of the season to lead his side to a 3-2 win over the San Jose Earthquakes and celebrated by mockingly signing a cheque stating his displeasure at not being signed to a Designated Player contract with the clubs owners, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.
When asked why he produced the fake chequebook, De Rosario’s answer was simple – he wants a pay rise.
“That’s what it was,” De Rosario said.
“I think I’ve shown my commitment to this team and this city and this franchise. It’s time for [the club] to show me some commitment as well.”
