Talay eyeing North Queensland Fury captaincy

North Queensland Fury’s Ufuk Talay says he would love the opportunity to captain the club.

Following the takeover by Football Federation Australia, the Fury are now in the process of re-signing all of their players and currently have secured eight names to take them into the 2010/11 season.

As uncertainty surrounds the future of some players, including last season’s captain Robbie Fowler, Talay said he would jump at the chance to lead the Townsville club.

''If offered it, I'd love to take on the captaincy,'' he told the Townsville Bulletin.

''I'd like to think I'd be good at it with my years of experience which will come in handy in a fairly young side.''

The 34-year old had an injury-interrupted season last term but has got himself back to full fitness and is feeling good ahead of the club’s second A-League campaign.

''Last season wasn't the best for me, but I'm feeling fine and fit,'' Talay added.

''Right now I'm focused on getting through pre-season injury free and look forward to playing as many games as possible with the Fury.

''I probably can't run around like these young guys now, but I can still tell them where to run.''
