Sydney FC’s Colosimo intent on winning back Socceroos spot

Sydney FC defender Simon Colosimo is determined to have an excellent season in the A-League and once again push for national team selection.

The 30-year old has not appeared with the Socceroos since March 2007 but knows if he can produce some good performances for the Sky Blues, then anything is possible.

"The way I look at it is he (Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek) has been chopping and changing the backline,'' Colosimo said.

"There's Lucas Neill and Craig Moore as the top two central defenders and, if one's not there, there's a spot up for grabs. As we've seen, he's given Jade North and Mark Milligan a go there, so I feel there will be a couple of spots available.

"I know that I will really have to be playing well but this is the fittest and strongest I've been for some time and I've put on a few kilos which is what I wanted to do. I set out to complete all pre-season training sessions and I only missed two because my wife (Bianca) had our second child. Everything is going to plan.''
