Sydney FC’s Cole: We are not hungry enough

Sydney FC defender Shannon Cole admitted the players are simply not hungry enough after falling to a third defeat in five games this season.

Sydney FC defender Shannon Cole admitted the players are simply not hungry enough after falling to a third defeat in five games this season.

The reigning A-League champions were beaten 3-1 by Adelaide United at the Sydney Football Stadium on Saturday night to remain at the bottom of the table and Cole said it was because opposition teams were much hungrier than the Sky Blues.

''Right now, other teams just seem to be hungrier than us on match day and nearly always the team who wants it the most is the one who comes out on top,'' Cole said.

''I think other teams have stepped it up quite a bit and have raised the standard of football they're playing. I don't know if they're doing that just because we're Sydney FC - but in saying that, I don't think we're carrying that image all that strongly at the moment.

''We haven't played well at all and we know that. There were some positive performances in the pre-season against clubs from overseas but since then it just hasn't happened for us and we need to turn it around.''

Cole said the attitude at training has been good but conceded that the matchday focus was just not there at the moment.

“We train well, we train sharp, but we just need to make sure we want it as much as they do,'' Cole added.

''We've got to lift everything we do and just apply ourselves as much as we possibly can for 90 minutes.''
