Sydney’s Brosque set for 100th A-League appearance

Sydney striker Alex Brosque will play his 100th Hyundai A-League game in a top of the table clash with Melbourne Victory FC this Saturday.

“I just found out then actually, it’s a good little milestone,” said the forward following a training session. “Bimbi [Steve Corica] scored last week on his 200th so hopefully I can do the same.”

Arguably the A-League’s biggest rivalry, the Round 20 match-up between Sydney and Melbourne is made even more important considering the recent results of the two teams.

“It’s probably the best the two sides have been form wise going into this game. We’re at the top of our game they’re at the top of theirs. So it’s going to be very hard playing them in their own home, I’m sure it’ll be a big crowd as well,” said Brosque.

In their last visit to Etihad Stadium the Sky Blues silenced the home supporters with a 3-nil victory, something both Sydney and the Victory will keep in mind heading into the match.

“The thing that we can take going into the game is that we beat them well there last time and quite convincingly. So I think the boys will be confident but it’s going to be our toughest match yet.”

Brosque travels with the squad to Melbourne on Friday morning after doing what no team was able to do this season, defeat Wellington at home.

“We have to keep up the winning form. We had our sort of slump already where we lost three in a row. I think we’ve come out of it, we’ve won two tough games in a row now. And these next three games really will go a long way in defining our season and where we finish.”

With John Aloisi and Mark Bridge both hoping to make returns from injury, Sydney FC have the firepower in attack. With a mid week fixture next Wednesday Brosque is mindful of the team’s approach.

“We’ve got a busy couple of weeks coming up now we’ve got about three games in seven or eight days and it will be good to play with whoever’s upfront.”

Sydney takes on the Victory at Etihad Stadium on Saturday 19 December. Kick-off is at 8pm.
