Sunderland to offer Ferdinand for Spurs fullback Hutton

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is chasing Tottenham fullback Alan Hutton.

The Sun says Bruce is ready to offload Anton Ferdinand in a bid to land Spurs full-back Hutton.

Sunderland boss Bruce is desperate for defensive cover and wants to bring Scotland ace Hutton to Wearside in a swap deal with unhappy Ferdinand next month.

Hutton, 27, arrived at White Hart Lane for £9million in January 2008 but has struggled with injury and form. He has been second choice behind Vedran Corluka this term and is believed to fancy a move north.

And with Ferdy failing to cement a place under Bruce, the Black Cats boss is keen to try to tempt Harry Redknapp with a player exchange.

This was almost a last minute deal in the summer and as we need extra cover - with King and Woodgate injured and I think Bassong will be in the African Cup, it will mean only Dawson as a fully fit CD - I think this might happen. Hutton can be good on his day but he doesn´t have that many and has fallen way behind Corluka who is getting better and better.
