Sunderland boss Bruce furious with Meyler, Cattermole after dismissals

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce says there were no excuses for Lee Cattermole and David Meyler after their red cards in last night's 1-1 draw at Portsmouth.

Aruna Dindane salvaged a point for Pompey after Sunderland had taken the lead through Darren Bent's penalty.

But Bruce was furious with Cattermole and Meyler for getting sent off.

"Two of them (red cards) are stupid, you can't defend them," he said. "We didn't need to give him a decision to make. I can't defend the two of them and it's cost us the match.

"We needed to be more professional and not do anything stupid. And we did that."
