Southend United boss Steve Tilson has agreed a deal with Sunderland to allow him to re-sign Jean-Yves M'Voto on loan in January.
The Frenchman's initial deal is due to expire at the start of next month, but he has already returned to Sunderland to continue his rehabilitation following hip surgery.
Tilson told the club's official website: "We've agreed in principle for Jean-Yves to come back when he is fully fit.
"We didn't get to see much of him during his first six months here but when we did he was a dominating character.
"Subject to him getting back to full fitness we will be loaning him until the end of the season at some point in January."
