Subrata Roy to decide buying into Liverpool inside next fortnight
Subrata Roy is seriously weighing up buying into Liverpool.
The Telegraph says Roy, the billionaire owner of the Sahara group, will decide in the next two weeks whether to enter the race to take a £100 million stake in Liverpool, according to sources in India.
Sources close to the businessman are adamant no approach has been made to the Premier League club, but it is believed Roy is examining the viability of buying a stake, which would dilute the shareholding of Liverpool's co-owners, George Gillett and Tom Hicks.
Sahara was identified as a candidate to replace AIG as Manchester United's shirt sponsors last year, though Roy has always insisted his first love is for cricket, and has consistently distanced himself with suggestions he may be prepared to invest in Premier League clubs.
It is unlikely, though, that Roy, or any potential bidder, would agree to join Hicks and Gillett as a minority partner.
