Stoke City academy director Steve Holland concedes they're some way from producing regular Premiership class talent.

He told The Sentinel: "The academy isn't a Premier League academy yet in terms of the depth of quality throughout. We do have some good kids in the system, but we don't have enough.

"If you are looking at aged 14 upwards to 21, then the depth in quality is far too thin.

"We think Ryan Shotton is going to be a player at some level, and there are one or two others below. But there is nowhere near the depth we need."
