Sounders CEO Leiweke wins Executive of the Year award
Seattle Sounders CEO Tod Leiweke has been named the 2009 Executive of the Year by the Puget Sound Business Journal.
The 49-year old, who heads up NFL club Seattle Seahawks and is the CEO of Vulcan Sports and Entertainment, was recognized for his efforts in regards to MLS franchise Seattle Sounders who enjoyed a brilliant season both on and off the pitch in 2009.
“Against the backdrop of the recession, the Major League Soccer expansion club captured the imagination of the central Puget Sound region and blew past expectations," the Journal wrote.
The Sounders experienced a dizzying level of popularity among Seattle people in 2009, setting a record for the best average attendance in MLS and qualifying for the play-offs in their debut season.
