Skipper McFlynn proud to lead Sydney

Sydney FC stand-in captain Terry McFlynn is very humbled to be able to lead the side out in tomorrow’s A-League Grand Final.

Following the season-ending injuries to usual skipper Steve Corica and his deputy John Aloisi, the Northern Irishman has been handed the captains armband for the decider against the Melbourne Victory and he is extremely proud to of the honour.

“Obviously it’s an honour and privilege for me to captain the club,” he said. “It’s under disappointing circumstances that we lost Johnny (Aloisi) but that’s football.

“It’s a big loss for us, both Steve (Corica) and Johnny are both fantastic players, fantastic professionals but it’s just and honour and privilege to captain the club.”

And McFlynn added that the it was great to be able to lead his team in such a big match between two clubs who have a great rivalry.

“The first game (ever between Sydney and Melbourne) was quite special because it was the first game for us in the A-League, on that day we drew,” he added.

“I think we’ve been very close all the way through all of the seasons of the A-League and the rivalry is the same in any country, the two best teams create rivalries and this is no different.”
