Seattle Sounders winger Steve Zakuani admits he is considering a call-up to play for the DR Congo national team.

Seattle Sounders winger Steve Zakuani admits he is considering a call-up to play for the DR Congo national team.

The 22-year old former Arsenal trainee has hit top form in MLS this season, scoring ten goals and providing six assists, and is attracting plenty of interest from the national team of the country where he was born.

Zakuani admits he would like to play for the USA but admits he is keen to get his international career underway as soon as possible.

“Time has been the one thing on my mind,” he told ExtraTime Radio. “I don’t want to wait until 25 or 26 to make my international debut when I can be playing for the Congo national team in the African [Cup of] Nations qualifiers, which are very good games.

“Just because of that is probably why I’m leaning more toward Congo.”
