Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Keller accepts that MLS is not the best in the world but says the support for the game in the US is definitely growing legs.

Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Keller accepts that MLS is not the best in the world but says the support for the game in the US is definitely growing legs.

As a new franchise, the Sounders have already experienced massive numbers in regards to support and Keller puts it down to creating a bond between the city and the local team.

“It's already so entrenched in the city that they have a relationship with the team when they truly don't have a relationship with the team yet,” Keller said recently.

“That's what a fan base is about. It's about familiarity. It's about rooting for your team. It's not just being neutral and watching the game.

“It's saying, 'That's my team. I'm going to watch it no matter what.' ”

The former Tottenham and Fulham shot-stopper used the NBA as an example of where MLS is at worldwide.

“There's a reason why the rest of the world watches the NBA,” Keller said.

“They still watch their local team in Spain, or their team in Turkey, or their team in Italy or wherever else, but they also watch the NBA because the NBA is the best league in the world for basketball. People are always going to watch the best.

“We have to accept that as a league . . . The more people who like the game, the better.”
