Seaman insists Arsenal No1 Almunia good enough

Arsenal legend David Seaman has no doubts Manuel Almunia is up to the job.

Alumnia was criticised for his performances in Arsenal's defeats to Manchester United and Chelsea.

But speaking about Almunia on Sky's Goals on Sunday programme, Seaman said: "I've coached him (Almunia) a little bit. He's realised that he is no 1 now. He's had a little lack of confidence. He and (Jens) Lehmann weren't the best of friends.

"He was in sometimes, sometimes he was left on the bench when he thought he should have been playing.

"Now he has become the No 1 he is slowly realising that and when you see him on the training ground he has got a bit of an aura about him. For me he's doing ok.

"He's got three top-quality international goalkeepers above him in Spain, so he's not getting international experience but the experience he is getting at Arsenal is invaluable."

totally agree with u

why not bring the Mexican goalkeeper (Guillermo Ochoa) from club america. I think he can do a much better job than almunia and his at a fordable price.. and his being doing good at international level.

I greatly question the abilities of Almunia. He cost us the first game against MUTD at Old Trafford. Coming out and cutting Rooney when he had no business coming out of his goals . He has no control over the defenders positioning. People believe that Arsenal gets caught on counters a lot , I seriously believe that one asset of a great goalkeeper is managing the protection to the entrance of his dungeon Seaman knows that better than anybody else. The great Peter Shilton was a master at asserting his authority and presence on the field. Almunia should be a no show on our squad next year.
