Scotland U21’s target Huddersfield striker Rhodes

Scotland Under-21 coach Billy Stark has confirmed his interest in English born, Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes.

The 20-year-old was born in Oldham but qualifies for Scotland through the five-year schooling rule. He was brought up north of the border when father Andy played in goal for Dunfermline, St Johnstone and Airdrie.

"He's on the radar, absolutely," Stark said. "He was born in 1990 so he's available for the next campaign. He qualifies for us but Huddersfield are involved in the Carling Cup so there is no need to look at him for this squad."

Stark was coy over whether Rhodes had pledged his allegiance to Scotland but he will pursue his interest.

"I don't want to go too deep into it because it's a minefield but there is a bit of encouragement there," the former Celtic and Aberdeen midfielder said.

"We have been keeping tabs on him for a while."
