Scotland coach Levein reveals plans to call-up Villa youngster Bannan
The 20 year-old from Airdrie earned a Scotland B cap against Northern Ireland last year but this will be his first involvement with the senior squad.
“I’ve known about Barry Bannan for two or three years,” he said. “When I was manager at Dundee United I spoke to Martin O’Neill a couple of years ago about some Scottish lads who could maybe go on loan, including Barry.
“I’ve been really impressed with him in the Under-21s. He’s now appearing on the pitch for the Aston Villa first team, which is quite significant, so it makes sense to have a look and see what he’s all about.
“I’ve not spoken to Gerard Houllier but I’ve seen Barry in the Under-21s and spoken to Billy Stark about him. I’m not saying he will be starting the game but I want to have a look at him and see how he gets on.”
