Sampdoria captain Palombo upset after dramatic Champions League exit

Sampdoria captain Angelo Palombo admitted disappointment after their Champions League elimination by Werder Bremen.

The Blucerchiati were thought by many to be out of the competition after their 3-1 first leg defeat at Werder Bremen.

Last night they were leading 3-0 at the 92nd minute when Mark Rosenberg forced extra time. Claudio Pizarro scored the decider after 100 minutes.

“If you are leading 3-0, then you have got to handle it better,” confessed Palombo to Sky Sport Italia.

“Perhaps our fitness levels let us down. Bremen are an expert side and they struck right at the end.

“Experience really counts at this level and they have some great players.

“It’s a shame. It was a dream, but we’ll try again.”
