Roma captain Totti: No Ranieri row
AS Roma captain Francesco Totti insists he hasn't fallen out with coach Claudio Ranieri.
Totti complained Roma played “catenaccio” tactics in the 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.
“To avoid further inaccurate interpretations of what happened, I feel it’s time for a clarification,” wrote the captain on his official website. “I was with some fans taking photographs away from the Press area and in that moment simply responded to a typically Roman comment on the way the match went.
“Those who know me well realise I am the first to be disappointed by defeat, first as a fan and then as a player. I would always like to see my team play open and attacking football to honour the name and the status of this city we represent.”
However, Totti insists he is not standing up against Ranieri’s defensive approach.
“The dialogue between a player and his Coach is daily, even more so if one is the captain of the squad. That is always the case, regardless of results. It is a daily and constant communication. With Ranieri, we go beyond simply exchanging ideas, as it is a very close, honest and genuine rapport we have created.
“Our DNA is of Romans and Romanisti, a link that means we speak the same language, understand each other straight away and do not need preambles. We care about the Giallorossi colours, this club and our fans. We are the biggest fans of all and that is how we behave.”
