Reserve team football on verge of being scrapped

SPL clubs are set to vote on a new ruling which would see reserve league football scrapped, reports the Daily Record.

The top division's governing body meet at Hampden on July 16.

Cost-cutting measures by the top 12 this summer will force many to trim down to skeleton squads and an opt-out is seen as sound financial sense by boards across the country.

Both Celtic and Rangers have announced their intention of playing cross-border reserve games against the English game's elite. This has proved successful with the likes of Manchester United bringing their youngsters to Glasgow last season.
