Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp must smash his wage structure to land Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole.

The Daily Star says Cole’s future at Chelsea is in doubt after talks over a new deal hit the buffers.

The England star wants in the region of £130,000 a week to stay at Stamford Bridge, but the club are refusing to budge on their £100,000 offer. And the news has put Redknapp on red alert.

The Spurs chief is a big fan of the 28-year-old and was heavily linked with a move for Cole last summer. Increase But the player’s wage demands will prove to be a major stumbling block.

It is understood Ledley King is Spurs’ top earner on a reported £75,000 a week, meaning Redknapp would have to increase that by over 70 per cent to meet Cole’s demands.
