Redknapp: Defoe used to tip me off about Spurs line-up at Portsmouth

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has revealed how he always could pull the wool over the eyes of Spurs when in charge of Portsmouth.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has revealed how he always could pull the wool over the eyes of Spurs when in charge of Portsmouth.

Redknapp admits he could count on Jermain Defoe giving him details of the Spurs line-up when the pair were together at Fratton Park!

Reacting to criticism of England coach Fabio Capello's approach, Redknapp wrote in his column for The Sun: "If you told the players your team on a Friday then one of those left out would cop the hump and start telling his mate on the opposition what exactly was going on.

"For example, when Jermain Defoe played for me at Portsmouth and we were playing Spurs, he'd tell me the team 24 hours before kick-off.

"One of his old mates - generally one sulking at being left out - would have texted him the whole shabang as a way of making a point.

"It goes on at every club and nowadays players from every country are pals so it would happen at the World Cup too.

"Capello is right to keep his teamsheet in his pocket."
