Queiroz rates Man Utd midfielder Fletcher as ideal role-model

Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz has heaped praise on Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher.

Fletcher was only a teenager when Queiroz worked with him in his previous role as Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager at Old Trafford, but the impression he made was profound.

“At Manchester United we gave him a taste of some big games at a young age to help his development,” said Queiroz. “He was someone we on the coaching staff felt would do well. Sir Alex knew the contribution he could make to Old Trafford and it has happened.

“He is a different player now from then. Not because he did not have the talent back then, but because of the experience he has amassed. He has so much knowledge now and he has added to his game. Darren is a great team player. He is a fantastic choice for Scotland as their captain.

“He is a great boy and a good model for other players and for youngsters, not only for Scots, but also around the world because of the status of United. He is so professional, committed and passionate. He works very hard every day in training. We need players like him in football as examples to others. I think he is a great role model around the globe.”

Darren is ma role model nd im very proud to say so cause im also a teenage player....he is the only combative player we've got at utd nd he is the kind of midfielder we need in games against the likes of city nd chelsea...man utd was just unlucky he didn't play in the final against barca;it would have been a different ball game.i luv u fletcher nd maybe i'll play alongside u oneday.

He also rated Cristiano best in the world and made him netional team captain. LOL. Poor judgement, Carlos
