Osieck emerges as frontrunner for Australia job

Holger Osieck has emerged as the frontrunner for the vacant Australian national team job.

The 61-year old German tactician, who most recently coached J-League club Urawa Reds, is being heavily linked with the Socceroos job which will be announced at 4pm AEST today.

Osieck was Franz Beckenbauer’s assistant with the Germany national team in between 1987 and 1990 and also coached the Canadian national team in between 1999 and 2003.

Reports are suggesting he will be the man to replace Dutchman Pim Verbeek whose tenure ended after the World Cup.
