NYRB still competing with Yankees, Giants – Henry

New York Red Bull star Thierry Henry admits it is an ongoing battle for the MLS club to gain notoriety in a city which boasts some of the biggest sporting clubs in the world.

The Frenchman, who is one of New York’s three decorated Designated Players, is used to playing at a club which is the centre of attention in their city but finds it is not the same in the US.

“Competing with the Yankees and the Giants and everybody else, it’s a tough one, we’re trying to do what we can,” said Henry.

“I played in England (with Arsenal), I played in Italy (with Juventus), I played in Spain (with Barcelona), I played in France (with Monaco) and the pressure is always around. As you know it’s kind of difficult to get in front of Yankees if you talk about front page. Even if you win, whatever you win, at the end of the day that’s the way it is.”
