NYRB’s Backe, Henry full of praise for Marquez
New York Red Bulls coach Hans Backe has paid tribute to star player Rafael Marquez.
The Swedish tactician is a big fan of the former Barcelona defender-*****-midfielder who he says is a great player to have out on the pitch when things get tough.
"He’s very, very composed on the ball, and he has the short and long passes. He’s very precise and he can open up the game when you are under pressure,'' Backe said of Marquez. "He is a key player in our attacking game.''
New York striker Thierry Henry, who played with the Mexico captain at Barca, also heaped praise on Marquez for his ability to guide the team to victory.
"Every time Rafa didn't play, it’s sad to say in a way, (we struggle),'' Henry admitted. "He didn’t play against Salt Lake and we couldn’t come out (of the back). He didn’t play today, and we could not come out. He also didn’t play in the game against Toronto, same type of game that we had (Saturday). They should’ve won the game, but they didn’t at our place.''
